Tony Southgate's first design for BRM was the BRM P153, a low bathtub monocoque with bulbous sides that was a complete change to previous designs. This design returned the team to competitiveness with Pedro Rodriguez winning the Belgian GP. Non-contact formulas include National Hot Rods, Stock Rods, and Lightning Rods. This “low-cost” alternative is made possible thanks to the differences in the two series. Following on from the prototype Climax V8 Cooper in 1961, two new Cooper T60s were built for the 1962 season. AJ Foyt commissioned Bob Riley to design a new car for 1971, to replace the dated Len Terry-derived cars that Foyt had been using since 1966. It could not compete with the McLarens or 1971 Eagles, but Foyt won one race when the quicker cars hit problems. Art Kijek raced his home-built Formula A across North America in 1969, from Minnesota to Florida. Unfortunately for the small team, it was destroyed in a fire at the end of the season.

Events take place on shale or tarmac tracks – usually around 1/4 mile long. The governing bodies for the sport are the Oval Racing Council and BriSCA. There are around 35 tracks in the UK and upwards of 7000 active drivers. The sport is split into three basic divisions – distinguished by the rules regarding car contact during racing.

For instance, every IndyCar on the track shares the same chassis and aerodynamics package, which are all designed and sold by a third-party supplier rather than being developed in-house at an outrageous expense. The same goes for the engines of IndyCar vehicles, which are all 2.2-liter twin-turbo V6s engineered and sold by either Honda or Chevrolet . Drivers that can drive the racing vehicles are the sportsmen or sportswomen as in all sporting activities of humans. Drag racing is two cars head-to-head, the winner proceeding to the next round. Professional classes are all first to the finish line wins. Sportsman racing is handicapped using an index (a lowest e.t. allowed), and cars running under their index "break out" and lose.

Touring Car Racing

The track was a 4.45 km circuit, 30 m wide, with two curves banked to a height of 8.5 m. Sprint, relay, endurance, and handicap races were run at Brooklands, as well as long-distance runs in 1932. Montlhéray was also the site of many long-distance speed records.

Other Types Of Open Wheeled Racing

During the actual rally, the co-driver reads the pace notes aloud (using an in-helmet intercom system) to the driver, enabling them to complete each stage as quickly as possible. Competition is based on lowest total elapsed time over the course of an event's special stages, including penalties. These cars are referred to as LMP cars with LMP1 being run mainly by manufacturers and the slightly less powerful LMP2 cars run by privateer teams. All three Le Mans Series run GT cars in addition to Le Mans Prototypes; these cars have different restrictions than the FIA GT cars.
